Dr. Martha B. Koo, M.D., is the Medical Director of the Manhattan Beach Professional Group. Originally from McLean, Virginia, Dr. Koo completed her undergraduate studies at Princeton University. She settled on the west coast to
attend UCLA Medical School, earning membership to the AOA and Sigma Xi
Society for academic excellence. Dr.
Koo completed residency training in psychiatry at the UCLA
Neuropsychiatric Institute and psychoanalytic training at the New Center
for Psychoanalysis. She is Board Certified in Psychiatry and Board Certified in Addiction Medicine. She has lived in Manhattan Beach since 1995, and for the past twenty-two years has served the South Bay, providing psychotherapy, psychoanalysis and pharmacological treatment for individuals, couples and families. A pioneer in the development and application
of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), Dr. Koo is the Medical Director of the South Bay TMS Therapy Center. Additionally, Dr. Koo is a clinical supervisor at the Clear Recovery Center, and she works closely with several local recovery homes to provide addiction therapy and medication management for their residents. She is an active member of the
American Psychiatric Association, the New Center for Psychoanalysis, the Clinical TMS Society, the American Society of Addiction Medicine and the Southern California Psychiatric
Lily Darya Shariat, M.A., LMFT., is the Clinical
Director of the Manhattan Beach Professional Group. Lily has lived in
Southern California for over twenty-five years and has worked in a wide
variety of clinical settings. Prior to obtaining her Masters in
Psychology from Antioch University in Los Angeles, Lily worked as an
ADHD Coach. She has a special expertise in family, couple, and
individual psychotherapy. Lily is a certified substance abuse
professional by the Department of Transportation, and she is
professionally trained to aid employees and employers in Employee
Assistance Programs. In addition to her private practice, she manages
Behavioral Health accounts for United Health Group. Lily is fluent in
Farsi and French.
Dr. Steven T. Charles,
and raised in Kansas. After completing his undergraduate studies and
medical training at the University of Kansas, he pursued a fellowship at
University in the History of Medicine. He then traveled to Los Angeles
residency training in psychiatry at Harbor UCLA, after which he
second fellowship, in Psychiatry and Law, at the USC Keck School of
Dr. Charles is board certified in Psychiatry. He has over twenty years
experience as a Clinical Assistant Professor and Voluntary Attending at
Dr. Charles has extensive experience in direct
care. He was a Flight Surgeon in the U.S. Air Force, he has been a staff
psychiatrist in several county mental health clinics, community
and inpatient hospitals in California, Colorado and Ohio, and had his
private practices in Manhattan Beach and Denver. He is delighted to
offer his expertise in
psychopharmacological treatment. Dr. Charles is a member of the American
Psychiatric Association, the California Psychiatric Society and the
California Psychiatric Society.
Diane Bagatourian, MS, CADC, LMFT, is a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor and Licensed Marital Family Therapist. She
earned her Certificate in Alcohol and Drug Studies and
Associates Degree in Human Services from Cypress College in 2001. She then
pursued both a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Human Services (2005) and a Master of
Science Degree in Marital and Family Therapy (2010) from California State
University Dominquez Hills. Diane has been providing psychotherapy to individuals, families, couples and children in
the South Bay for over 11 years. Special
interests include play therapy with children, crime victims and addiction. Diane is a member of the California
Association of Marital and Family Therapists.
Gerard Sobnosky, LMFT, is a Licensed
Marriage and Family Therapist. He earned a Master of Science
Degree in Psychology from Walden University (2005) and a Master of Arts Degree
in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University (2013). He is certified in
Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy from the New Center for Psychoanalysis (2010), where he is also currently an Advanced Candidate in the PhD in Psychoanalysis program. Gerard works with adults, adolescents and
children in individual, family, and couples therapy, addressing issues
including anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, bereavement, couples in
conflict, and character disorders. He is an active member of the California
Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, the American Psychoanalytic
Association, and the International Psychoanalytic Association.
Sophia Galano, MSW, is an Associate Social Worker (#69296). After obtaining a B.A. from Pitzer College, Sophia earned a Masters Degree from New York University. She specializes in child, adolescent and young adult therapy and utilizes a creative approach in pursuing a deeper understanding of the human psyche. Her training has brought her coast to coast, and she has extensive experience in residential, inpatient and outpatient clinical settings. In addition to providing individual psychotherapy at MB Professional Group under the supervision of Martha Koo, M.D., Sophia is a clinical therapist at Paradigm Malibu, an established residential treatment center for adolescents with depression, anxiety and addiction. Sophia is an active member of the National Associate of Social Workers.
Goldie Rai is the Administrative Director of the Manhattan Beach Professional Group. A native of
California, she graduated from California State University at Fresno and began a career in teaching before becoming a medical assistant and office administrative supervisor.
Being a fully certified Transcranial Magnetic Therapy Technician, Goldie also works closely with Dr. Martha Koo at the South Bay TMS Therapy Center.
